2014 September – Do you remember?

In days of old, when multiple ships would arrive at a harbor at the same time, they would have one man, their anchorman, swim ashore. Do you remember “The Anchorman” allegory in Phase 2?

The anchorman was important because rather than having all the ships enter the harbor at the same and thus tie up traffic, the anchorman represented the entire ship. The first swimmer to reach the dock would be first to have his ship unloaded, and everyone aboard the ship would enjoy all the benefits of the anchorman’s effort.

This allegory is included in the teaching on God’s blood covenant because as our anchorman, or representative, Christ won the victory over sin and death so that through him, we have also won the battle. Christ is our eternal covenant representative, interceding with the Father on our behalf on the basis of the perfect performance He rendered in our name.

We can be sure of our place in Christ as our covenant representative because God’s Word plainly tells us, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.” Romans 8:16–17.
